Advancements in Simulation-Based Optimal Experimental Design

Abstract

We present recent advancements on a measure-theoretic perspective for Simulation-Based Optimal Experimental Design (SB-OED). This perspective focuses on optimizing quantifiable geometric properties of Quantity of Interest (QoI) maps from model inputs to observable model output data. The two geometric properties considered in the formulation of the SB-OED are related to the accuracy and precision in solving stochastic inverse problems based on modeling uncertain QoI data using probability measures. We define these geometric properties precisely, provide numerical results illustrating various concepts, and discuss the current and future work of SB-OED.
